Successful establishment from overseeding can sometimes be difficult. We want you to achieve the best possible results from using our mixtures. The catalogue contains details of oversowing rates together with normal sowing depths and rates for each mixture. Thatch particularly inhibits oversowing establishment; seeds sown into the thatch layer may germinate but will not successfully establish.
The recommended sowing depths are BELOW any thatch layer, ensuring the seed is in good contact with the rootzone at the recommended depth. Thatch control is highly recommended prior to overseeding to ensure the seed is in good contact with the rootzone and to allow water and air infiltration. The type of machine used to apply the seed should be taken into consideration when calculating the sowing rate. For example, a lower oversowing rate in several directions may be preferable when using a disc seeder.
